See what a text is really about

Paste any text — an article, survey responses, a transcript, reviews — and this tool counts how often each word appears and lays them out as a word cloud, with the most frequent words drawn largest. Short and common filler words are skipped so the cloud highlights the words that actually matter. You can also open a PDF, EPUB, Word or OpenDocument file with Open PDF or Word…, or draw a table of word counts you already have with Import counts (CSV)…. Pour the words into a circle, heart, star or another Shape — or Use your own shape… with a silhouette picture — pick the Font, Colours and background, set how many words appear and how often a word must occur, and use Edit the word list to hide a word, add one, change a weight or put one word in the centre. “Treat upper and lower case as one word (PhD → phd)”, on by default, can be unticked to count PhD and phd apart; “Group forms of a word — English, roughly” adds design, designs, designed and designing together; and “Show each word’s count in the picture” draws each word with its count after it. Download the result as a PNG — larger from the Image size menu if you need it — or as an SVG, to drop into slides or a report. Direction set to “Across and upright” stands every other word on its side, the biggest staying level, and “Fill the picture” grows or shrinks every word by the same amount so the cloud fills the frame. Every setting is kept in the page address, so a reload keeps it, and Copy link gives a link that also carries the text and your edits to the word list, so it opens the same cloud.

Everything runs in your browser: the text is never uploaded, so it’s safe for private or unpublished content. It pairs well with the word counter when you want the raw counts rather than a picture.

Frequently asked questions

How is word size decided?

Words are sized by how often they appear — the most frequent word is largest — using a square-root scale so one very common word doesn’t dwarf everything else.

Are common words like “the” included?

Not by default. An “Ignore common words” box is ticked to start with, and it drops a list of English and Korean filler words that includes “the” — untick it to keep them. A separate rule skips words under three letters, and that floor falls to one character when the text contains Hangul, since two syllables is an ordinary Korean word.

Can I download the word cloud?

Yes — download it as a PNG image, ready for slides, reports or social posts, at a larger size from the Image size menu if you need one, or as an SVG that stays sharp at any size.

Can I change the shape, font and colours, or edit the words?

Yes. “Shape” pours the words into a circle, heart, star, diamond or triangle instead of the rectangle, and “Use your own shape…” takes a picture — a dark shape on a light background, or a shape on a transparent one. “Font”, “Colours” (a choice of palettes, or one colour you pick), a background colour and “Transparent background” set the look. “Edit the word list” hides a word, adds one, changes a weight or puts one word in the centre, and the edits stay when the text changes.

Can I share a word cloud as a link, or turn some words upright?

Yes. “Copy link” copies a link that opens the same cloud: the text, the words you hid, the weights you changed and the centre word travel in it along with every setting. The settings alone — shape, font, colours, background, image size, direction, word limits and “Fill the picture” — are also kept in the page address, so a reload keeps them; the text goes only into the link Copy link makes, not into the address bar. A picture used as your own shape and counts imported from a CSV are files, and are not part of the link. “Direction” set to “Across and upright” stands every other word on its side, the biggest staying level, and “Fill the picture” grows or shrinks every word by the same amount to fill the frame.

Can I show the counts in the picture, group word forms, or keep capitals apart?

Yes. “Show each word’s count in the picture” draws each word with its count in brackets after it, measured with the count so it takes its own room, in the canvas, the PNG and the SVG; the word list and the CSV keep the bare words. “Group forms of a word — English, roughly” adds plural, past and -ing forms together, so design, designs, designed and designing are one word, shown under the form written most often — a rule, not a dictionary, so thing and bring are left alone. “Treat upper and lower case as one word (PhD → phd)” is on by default; untick it and PhD and phd are counted apart, while the common-word filter still drops “The”. Like every setting, these are kept in the page address.
