Readability

Reading ease and grade level are Flesch scores, defined for English. This text is not English, so they are not shown.

Words, characters and lines, counted live

Paste or type any text and see the word count, character count (with and without spaces), sentence, line and paragraph counts update instantly. Nothing is sent anywhere — the counting happens in your browser, so it works offline and stays private.

Why word and character counts matter

Posts, essays, cover letters, ad copy and forms have length limits, and search results cut long titles and descriptions. Checking the count before you publish saves you from truncated titles or rejected forms.

Frequently asked questions

How are words counted?

Words are counted as groups of characters separated by spaces or line breaks. Extra whitespace is ignored.

Does it count characters with or without spaces?

Both — you can see the total character count and the count excluding spaces side by side.

Does it check platform length limits?

Yes. The SEO title (about 60) and meta description (about 160) badges are rules of thumb, because search results cut by width on screen rather than at a fixed count, so they never turn red. The X badge counts the way X does — Korean, Chinese and Japanese characters and emoji count 2, a link counts 23 — and turns red past 280. Select part of the text and the badges measure just that selection, so you can check a headline or a description inside a longer draft.
