Privacy Policy

This policy explains how MakerBox (“we”, “us”) handles your data. In short: the tools run in your browser and we don’t collect your files. Two other things do reach a third party — the advertising described below, and a handful of tools that fetch something from someone else’s server to do their job. Those are: map tiles from OpenStreetMap in the coordinate converter; map tiles in the 3D-tiles viewer, which starts on OpenStreetMap and, on the satellite basemap it opens with, switches to Korea’s VWorld — neither is fetched until you load a model into it; thumbnail images from YouTube; and, only if you choose the accurate background-removal model, a 219 MB model file from Hugging Face. Each of those tools says so on its own page, and no file, picture or text of yours is sent with the request.

Your files and text stay on your device

The tools on MakerBox process your content entirely within your browser using client-side technology. Files you drop in and text you type are never uploaded to, transmitted to, or stored on our servers.

A few tools deliberately keep your work in your own browser so it survives a reload, and each of them says so on its own page: the notepad and the rich-text editor keep what you have written, the word counter keeps your draft, and a handful of tools remember the last input you gave them along with their settings. That copy never leaves your device and we cannot read it — but it is on the device until you clear it, so on a shared or work computer, clear the tool before you walk away. Every one of those tools has a Clear button, and clearing your browser’s site data for MakerBox removes all of it.

Cookies and local storage

We use your browser’s local storage for three things, all of which stay on your device: basic preferences such as your theme (light/dark) and language; the tools you have opened recently and the ones you have starred, so the home page can offer them back; and, for the tools described above, the work you left in them. None of it is sent anywhere, and clearing your browser’s site data for MakerBox removes all of it. In addition, the third-party services below (advertising) may set their own cookies, as described in their own privacy policies.

Advertising

This site is supported by advertising, though ads are not necessarily enabled at all times. When advertising is active, we may use third-party vendors, including Google, to serve ads when you visit; the points below describe how it works and applies whenever ads are shown.

• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
• These third parties may also place and read cookies on your browser, and may use web beacons (also called pixel tags or clear GIFs) and your IP address, to collect information as a result of ads being served on this site.

• You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized ads at aboutads.info.

Analytics

We run no analytics of any kind. Nobody counts your visit, and no script on this site reports where you came from or what you did here.

To be exact about the sentence above: it is about analytics we chose to run, and we run none. The advertising script described in the previous section is Google’s, and it does report to Google — that is what serving an ad involves. What it collects, and how to turn personalised advertising off, is set out there.

Camera and microphone

One tool asks for them: the webcam recorder. Your browser will ask you first, and it asks every time — we cannot grant that permission on your behalf and cannot take it back. What the camera and microphone capture is recorded and saved by your own browser; there is no upload, no stream to anyone, and no copy anywhere but the file you choose to keep. Every other tool on this site works on what you type or drop into it and never touches either device.
