Privacy Policy

This policy explains how MakerBox (“we”, “us”) handles your data. In short: the tools run in your browser and we don’t collect your files. A few other things do reach a third party — the advertising described below, a handful of tools that fetch something from someone else’s server to do their job, and one tool whose opt-in online voices are sent what you type. The hosts we chose: map tiles from OpenStreetMap in the coordinate converter; map tiles in the 3D tiles viewer, which starts on OpenStreetMap and, on the satellite basemap it opens with, switches to Korea’s VWorld — neither is fetched until you load a model into it; thumbnail images from YouTube in the thumbnail viewer; and, only if you choose the accurate background-removal model, a 219 MB model file from Hugging Face — plus, if your browser can't run it on WebGPU, the WebAssembly runtime it needs instead, from the jsdelivr CDN. Seven tools reach a host you chose instead of one we chose: the EXIF viewer, the image colour picker, the XPath tester and the XML and YAML readers can open a document or picture from a web address you type, the Markdown preview loads the images your Markdown links to, and the WYSIWYG HTML editor shows the pictures your HTML links to once you press Show images; in each case your browser asks that address directly, so whoever runs it sees the request and nothing of yours is added to it. And text-to-speech: turn on its online voices and the words you are converting go to that voice’s provider, Google or Microsoft, to be spoken. Each of those tools says so on its own page, and otherwise no file, picture or text of yours is sent with the request.

Your files and text stay on your device

The tools on MakerBox process your content entirely within your browser using client-side technology. Files you drop in and text you type are never uploaded to, transmitted to, or stored on our servers, and they go nowhere else unless you use one of the features named above.

Your browser sends the page address to our host every time it loads a page, as it does for any address. Many tools keep their settings in it so a reload or a bookmark keeps them — the mode, the unit, and in many calculators the amounts you enter. What you write or paste, and personal details such as your body measurements, your birth date, your pay or a loan amount, are kept out of it; Copy link puts those after the #, the part of a link a browser never sends.

A few tools deliberately keep your work in your own browser so it survives a reload, and each of them says so on its own page: the notepad keeps what you have written, and a handful of tools keep what you typed only while you tick their “remember” box. Other tools keep their settings, never what you paste into them. That copy never leaves your device and we cannot read it — but it is on the device until you clear it, so on a shared or work computer, clear the tool before you walk away. Every one of those tools has a Clear button, and clearing your browser’s site data for MakerBox removes all of it. One copy is shorter-lived: when you send a result from one tool to the next, the text waits in this tab’s session storage until that tool opens it, which deletes it, and it is never put in the address.

Cookies and local storage

We use your browser’s local storage for three things, all of which stay on your device: basic preferences such as your theme (light/dark) and language; the tools you have opened recently and the ones you have starred, so the home page can offer them back; and, for the tools described above, the work you left in them. None of it is sent anywhere, and clearing your browser’s site data for MakerBox removes all of it. In addition, the third-party services below (advertising) may set their own cookies, as described in their own privacy policies.

Advertising

This site is meant to be paid for by advertising, and ads are not necessarily shown at all times. When advertising is active, we may use third-party vendors, including Google, to serve ads when you visit; the points below describe how it works and applies whenever ads are shown.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand, in aggregate, which pages are visited and how the site performs. It sets no cookies and does not track or identify you personally.

Camera and microphone

Three kinds of tool ask for the camera: the Webcam Recorder, theQR Code Reader (to read a code you hold up to it), and the signature step of the PDF Editor and the PDF Form Filler (to photograph a signature written on paper). Only the Webcam Recorder asks for the microphone, and not while its sound is turned off. Your browser asks for permission first; if you allow it, the browser may remember that for this site until you change it in its site settings. We cannot grant that permission on your behalf and cannot take it back. What the camera and microphone capture stays in your own browser: the recorder saves only the file you choose to keep, the QR reader reads the code without saving the picture, and the signature step turns the one frame you take into the signature. There is no upload and no stream to anyone. Every other tool on this site works on what you type or drop into it and never touches either device.

Email you send us

When you write to us, your address, your message and anything you attach arrive in our inbox, and we read them to answer you. Nothing you open in a tool is sent with it. Please leave personal and confidential details out, and for a file that breaks a tool, send the smallest copy that still shows the problem with anything private removed — or describe it instead. We keep each conversation, our replies included, for one year after our last reply and then delete it, trash included. Ask us to, and we delete yours at once instead.
