Lorem Ipsum Generator
Placeholder text by words, sentences, paragraphs, characters or bytes — Latin, Cicero, Kafka, Korean, Japanese or Cyrillic — as plain text, HTML or Markdown.
Same seed produces the same text — reproducible and shareable.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
Placeholder text on demand
Designers and developers use lorem ipsum to fill layouts before the real copy is ready. Choose the unit — words, sentences, paragraphs, an exact number of characters or an exact number of bytes — and the amount, optionally starting with the classic "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…", then copy it into your mockup or template. Under the box a summary line counts what you actually got: paragraphs, sentences, words, characters and bytes. Generated locally in your browser.
Eleven fillers, not one
Latin is the wrong grey for a page that will not be set in Latin: the word shapes, the line lengths and the rag all come out unlike the real copy. So alongside classic Latin, hipster and corporate there is filler in Korean, Japanese — written unspaced and ending on 。, the way Japanese is actually set — and Cyrillic. There are also the classics a type specimen usually quotes: Cicero (the De finibus passage lorem ipsum was scrambled out of in the first place), Kafka and Werther for German, Li Europan lingues, and pangrams — kept as whole sentences, because a pangram sampled word by word stops being one.
Text that behaves like real copy
Two switches change the text itself. Random ! and ? endings mixes exclamation and question marks into the full stops and drops a comma inside the longer sentences, so a layout is not judged on one flat rhythm. Spell-check-proof bends every word just far enough that no dictionary holds it: half of lorem ipsum's words — in, at, id, sed, est — are real words somewhere, so a spell checker waves placeholder text through and it ships. And because filler exists to be looked at, the preview has its own typeface, size, line height and alignment; none of that reaches the text you copy or download.
Frequently asked questions
What is lorem ipsum?
It is scrambled Latin-like text used as a placeholder so you can judge a layout without being distracted by readable content. The words come from a passage of Cicero, which is also available here unscrambled.
Can I get an exact number of words or sentences?
Yes — switch the unit to words or sentences and enter the exact count you need to fill a specific field. Characters gives an exact character count, and bytes fills a byte budget: it stops at or just under the number rather than cutting through a multi-byte character.
Can I output HTML or Markdown instead of plain text?
Yes. Use the Format dropdown to wrap the text in HTML paragraphs or list items, or output Markdown, and pick a Flavor — classic Latin, hipster, corporate, Cicero, Kafka, Werther, Li Europan lingues, pangrams, Korean, Japanese or Cyrillic. It all generates locally in your browser.
Why would I use Korean or Japanese placeholder text?
Because Latin filler lies about a page that will not be set in Latin. Hangul and kana have different character widths, different line-break behaviour and a different texture on the page, so a layout that looks balanced under lorem ipsum can fall apart under the real copy. The Japanese filler is written without spaces and ends its sentences on 。, which is what makes the line lengths honest.
What does the spell-check-proof option do?
It doubles a letter in every word, so nothing the generator produces is a word in any dictionary. Plain lorem ipsum contains real English words (in, at, id) and plausible ones besides, which is how placeholder text survives a proofread and reaches production. With this on, the spell checker underlines all of it. It applies to the scripts that have spelling to check, so it is off for Korean and Japanese.
Do the typeface and size controls change the text?
No. Typeface, size, line height and alignment only set how the preview is shown, so you can judge the filler in something near the type your layout will use. Copy and Download always give you the text itself, with none of that styling attached.
