What does removing emoji do?

This tool scans your text and deletes every emoji and pictographic character while leaving your letters, numbers, punctuation, and line breaks intact. It understands modern emoji: single emoji like 😀, colored variants written with a variation selector (❤️), skin-tone modifiers (👋🏽), country flags built from regional-indicator pairs (🇰🇷), and multi-person Zero-Width-Joiner sequences (👨‍👩‍👧) are each removed as a whole. Matching is based on the Unicode Extended_Pictographic property rather than a hand-written list, so it stays accurate as new emoji appear.

When is this useful?

Removing emoji is handy for cleaning up usernames, file names, and database fields, sanitizing captions or CSV exports before import, preparing plain-text logs, or stripping decorative symbols from copied content. Paste your text and the cleaned version appears live, ready to copy with one click. Above the result it says how many emoji were removed and how many characters the text had before and has after — a flag or a skin-toned emoji counts as one character. An optional Collapse extra spaces toggle tidies the gaps that emoji leave behind so hi 😀 there 🎉 becomes a clean hi there. With it on, a line that held nothing but what was removed goes too, with its line break, so a list of reactions leaves no blank lines behind; blank lines you typed yourself stay. Note that non-pictographic symbols such as check marks (✓) and arrows (→) are Unicode symbols but not emoji, so they are deliberately kept. For a harsher clean, tick Keep only letters, digits and spaces (also removes symbols and punctuation): arrows, check marks, box drawing and punctuation go too, while letters with their accents, digits, spaces and line breaks stay. Both settings are kept in the page address, and Copy link copies a link that also carries your text, so whoever opens it sees the same cleaned result.

Frequently asked questions

Does it remove flag, family, and skin-tone emoji correctly?

Yes. Regional-indicator flag pairs, Zero-Width-Joiner sequences like multi-person families, and skin-tone modifiers are all recognized and removed as complete units, not left as broken fragments.

Why are symbols like ✓ or → not removed?

Those are Unicode symbols but they are not classified as Extended_Pictographic (emoji), so the tool intentionally leaves them in place. Only emoji and true pictographs — including legacy ones like ©, ®, and ™ — are stripped.

Does removing an emoji leave a stray space before punctuation?

Not with extra spaces collapsed: the space an emoji leaves in front of a full stop, comma, question mark or closing bracket goes with it, so “thanks team 🎉!” becomes “thanks team!”. Dashes, quotes and opening brackets keep their space.

Can I send someone the cleaned text as a link?

Yes. “Copy link” copies a link that carries your text along with both settings, “Collapse extra spaces” and “Keep only letters, digits and spaces”, so whoever opens it gets the same cleaned result. The settings sit in the page address; the text goes only into that copied link, never into the address bar on its own. If the text is too long to put in a link, the button gives way to a note saying so.
