Delete the empty backs a scanner leaves behind
Duplex and auto-feed scanners often insert a blank page for every empty sheet back, doubling the length of a scanned document with pages that hold nothing. Drop a PDF here and this tool renders each page, measures how much of it is actually ink versus white paper, and lists every page that looks blank as a thumbnail with how much ink it holds — so you see each one before it goes. Tick any the tool got wrong to keep it, then press the button: the cleaned file downloads with -no-blanks added to its name, the blank pages gone and every remaining page untouched and in its original order. Use the sensitivity control to decide how empty a page must be to count as blank: raise it to also catch pages with a stray speck or a faint watermark, lower it to only list pages that are essentially spotless.
Private and client-side
Everything runs in your browser. Pages are rasterized with pdf.js to inspect the pixels, and the surviving pages are copied into a new document with pdf-lib, so your PDF is never uploaded to a server and even confidential scans stay on your device. Detection is threshold-based, so a page whose only mark is a small page number or a light stamp may read as blank. Every page it wants to delete is shown to you first as a thumbnail with how much ink it holds, so you can tick any you want to keep before anything is removed; moving the setting re-decides the list instantly without re-reading the file. When every page looks blank the tool keeps your original untouched rather than hand you an empty file.
Frequently asked questions
How does it decide a page is blank?
Each page is rendered to an image and the tool counts how many pixels are darker than near-white. If the share of dark ink pixels falls below the sensitivity you set, which is 0.5% by default, the page is listed as a blank candidate for you to look over. Fully white pages and the empty backs from a duplex scan land on that list, while pages with text, images or lines are kept.
Will it delete a page that only has a page number or a faint mark?
It will flag it, but it cannot delete it behind your back — that page appears in the list of candidates with a thumbnail and a Keep it checkbox, so you can rescue it before you download. Tightening the setting takes it off the list straight away, with no need to load the file again. The original order of every page that is kept never changes.
Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?
No. Pages are rasterized and inspected with pdf.js and the cleaned PDF is rebuilt with pdf-lib entirely in your browser. Your file never leaves your device and the tool keeps working offline.
