Redact an image before you share it
Screenshots and photos often contain things you don’t want the world to see — a face, a car’s license plate, a home address, an API key, a name in a chat thread. Image Censor lets you drag a box over each of those regions and hide it three ways: pixelate it into an unreadable mosaic, blur it into a soft smear, or drop a solid black box over it. Draw as many boxes as you need, pick a style, apply, and download a clean PNG.
Why proper redaction matters
Blur and pixelation done this way replace each region with the average color of blocks the size you choose, so detail smaller than a block is averaged away, not just hidden under a layer someone could peel off. Shapes larger than a block can still show through — at a small size the outline of a word may be guessable — so use the black box for keys, passwords and other text. Because everything runs in your browser, the picture is never uploaded, so even the un-redacted original never leaves your device. Sharing a phone photo? Strip its hidden GPS and camera metadata too with the EXIF remover.
Frequently asked questions
Can the blur or pixelation be reversed?
Not the detail they hide. Both replace each region with the average color of blocks — the block size for Pixelate, the strength for Blur — so the original pixels inside a block are discarded, not merely covered, and the PNG you share does not hold them. What is larger than a block can still show through: at a small size the shape of a word may be guessable. For keys, passwords and other text, use the black box, which removes the pixels entirely.
How do I redact more than one thing at once?
Drag a box over each area you want to hide — you can draw as many as you like. When you press Apply, every selected box is redacted together using the style you chose.
Which file format is downloaded?
The redacted image is saved as a lossless PNG, so black boxes stay perfectly solid and pixelated edges stay crisp with no JPEG artefacts appearing around them.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is read, redacted and exported entirely in your browser — it never leaves your device, which is the whole point of a privacy tool.
