How the estimate works
Enter how much you have finished, the total you are aiming for, and how long you have been going. The calculator works out your rate as amount done divided by elapsed time, then assumes that rate holds for the rest of the job. From there it projects the time remaining, the total time from start to finish, and a clock time for when you should be done. The percent complete is simply amount done divided by total. Everything updates live as you type, and the projected finish clock keeps ticking on its own.
When it is accurate
This is a straight-line estimate that assumes the work continues at the same average pace you have shown so far. That fits steady tasks well, such as a file transfer, a render, a data import, or reading a fixed number of pages. If your pace speeds up or slows down the projection will drift, so treat it as a guide rather than a guarantee. You need some progress above zero and some elapsed time before a finish can be projected.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate the time remaining?
The tool divides the amount done by the elapsed time to get a rate, then divides the remaining amount by that rate. For example, 30 of 100 units in 60 seconds is a rate of 0.5 per second, so the remaining 70 units take about 140 seconds.
How is this different from a duration or date calculator?
A time duration calculator adds up fixed lengths of time and a date difference calculator measures the gap between two known dates. This tool instead projects an unknown finish time from your current rate of progress.
Is anything uploaded to a server?
No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored.
