Alt code: hold Alt and type the number on the numeric keypad (Windows). Above 127 the leading-zero codes type these characters only on a Windows set to a Western language (Windows-1252); a Korean Windows types different ones.

What this ASCII table shows

This is the full 7-bit ASCII set, codes 0 through 127, in one searchable table; tick Include extended ASCII to add codes 128–255 as Windows-1252 has them. Each row lists the decimal code, the three-digit octal value, the two-digit hexadecimal value, the 8-bit binary value, the character itself, its HTML entity (the number and, where there is one, the name) and a worded description such as Latin capital letter A. Control codes 0–31 and 127 are shown by their standard abbreviation (NUL, ESC, DEL, and so on) because they have no printable glyph, 32 is labelled Space, and the printable characters 33–126 show their actual glyph.

How to search

Type a decimal code like 65 to jump to A, or a hex code like 0x41, an octal one like 0o101, or an HTML entity like > or A. Type a single character such as a to find that exact glyph (search is case-sensitive for glyphs), or type a control-code or Space name like NUL or space; a word also searches the descriptions, so tilde finds ~. Every match shows its decimal, octal, hex and binary encodings side by side, and a copy button puts the character on your clipboard.

Frequently asked questions

Why do codes 0–31 and 127 show a name instead of a character?

Those are control codes with no printable glyph, so the table shows their standard abbreviation instead — for example NUL (0), HT (9, tab), LF (10, line feed), ESC (27) and DEL (127).

Is search by decimal or hexadecimal?

Both. Plain digits like 65 are read as a decimal code, while a value with a 0x prefix or hex letters (a–f), such as 0x41 or 1f, is read as a hexadecimal code. Octal works too, written 0o101, and so does an HTML entity like > or A.

Does it cover extended ASCII (128–255)?

Yes, as an option: tick Include extended ASCII and codes 128–255 are added as Windows-1252 has them — the euro sign, curly quotes and dashes at 0x80–0x9F, with the bytes Windows-1252 leaves unassigned marked as such, and the Latin-1 characters above. Each shows the HTML entity of the character it stands for (0x80 is €, not €). Extended ASCII is not one standard, so the page names the code page it uses, and the setting is kept in the link.

Can I show just one group, copy a row’s codes, or find a Windows Alt code?

Yes. “Show” narrows the table to one group — control codes; space, punctuation and symbols; digits; uppercase; lowercase; and the extended characters when they are on — and is kept in the link like the search. Each row has “Copy row” after the character’s own Copy, and “Copy shown rows” under the table copies every row the search and the group leave; both are tab-separated, so they paste into a spreadsheet as columns. The “Alt code” column gives the Windows Alt code of each printable character — with a leading zero for the Windows-1252 characters above the ASCII range, which type those characters only on a Windows set to a Western language — and none for control codes.
